Every once in awhile, we encounter a transfer that requires a Medallion Signature Guarantee which is an authentication method used to transfer securities from one institution to another. A Medallion Signature Guarantee is not the same as a notary and is only performed by financial institutions such as banks. Unfortunately, very few banks offer Medallion Signature Guarantees, so it can be quite difficult to obtain if you have to initiate the transfer of securities. If you are attempting to transfer securities and the forms require a Medallion Signature Guarantee, contact your primary bank first before searching for other financial institutions.
